Daniel Christopherson playing on the themes of the national anthem. Single track acoustic guitar performance using alternate tuning.

This quote seems relevant to this interpretive piece: "When we go into a forest that has not been interfered with by man, our thinking mind will see only disorder and chaos. The mind is more comfortable in a landscaped park because is has been planned through thought. There is an order that the mind can understand. ...In the forest, there is an incomprehensible order that to the mind looks like chaos." Eckhart Tolle

Interpretive performances allow me to witness my thinking mind, the way my thoughts strive for predictability.

In this way, improvisational thematic music like this can be really fun-- I can watch and 'feel' my intense expectations that melodies be played the way I've heard them before. It's like going down a familiar road, then the performer takes left turn and I must let go of my ideas. No choice but to let go of yet another expectation... and trust that there is beauty in every variation, every twist of the plot. A little bit like life :)
